Phil Pennington

My name is Phil Pennington, and I am one of the elder candidates. My wife Joan and I have been attending Eagan Hills Church since the fall of 1999.We have three children and nine surviving grandchildren. Our youngest daughter Kate, and her husband Kyle and three boys, ages 4 to 9, live in Hawley, MN. Kyle is a former Eagan Hills intern and Associate Pastor and now is the Associate Pastor at Hawley Alliance Church. Our middle child, Aaron, attends Eagan Hills Church with his wife Ashley, who is also a former Eagan Hills intern, along with their six children ages 2 to 10. Our oldest child, Jennifer, was struck and killed by lightning during a family vacation in August of 1996. She would be 39 years old. Her death is what ultimately brought our family into a saving relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and becoming born-again believers drew us to Eagan Hills Church.Since joining, I have taught K-5 Sunday school and Joan has been a member of the worship team. Through the years, together we have also facilitated many marriage, pre-marriage, and parenting classes. I have also been a part of the counting team for many years and recently became a member of the newly formed finance team. Last fall Joan and I started facilitating a parenting group that met Wednesday nights. We will be leading that same group beginning in late October, with a focus on marriage and parenting. Two years ago, at the onset of COVID, my employer offered me and several others early retirement packages. I ended up taking them up on their offer. Since that time, I had been praying and asking God to use me in this season of my life as he saw fit. I have always had a tremendous respect for past and present Elders and the great responsibility of their position. So, when I was asked this summer to consider becoming an Elder and to “try it out” it was with great feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness that I accepted. However, I also felt that God had prepared me well for such a time as this. I want to be faithful and obedient to what I feel God has called me to do.
